Oyster provides a full range of swimming pool heating systems to ensure your pool remains inviting for sublime, chill-free enjoyment. We are happy to advise you on the best solution to meet your requirements and budget.
There are many ways to heat your pool and Oyster Pools covers them all! These encompass gas (natural or LPG), oil, electric or solar. These are purpose-designed heaters for chemically treated swimming pool water. Swimming pool water is unsuitable for a normal domestic boiler, as the internal heating elements would be corroded by the chemicals in the water, instead a separate external heat exchanger must be plumbed in.
The method of heating a swimming pool is dependant on how the customer intends to use the pool. Firstly, will the pool be used regularly i.e. 7 days a week or will you only use it during weekends or at prearranged times. This is important because certain types of heaters, such as heat pumps, cost considerably less to run constantly than gas or oil heaters. However, if the pool is only going to be used on weekends, you may well benefit from the flexibility afforded to you by an oil or gas heater.
The capability to activate your heating a day or so before you wish to swim, is one of the benefits of an oil, gas or electric heating system. They also allow you to extend the swimming season of an outdoor pool. Some customers have been known to open and heat their outdoor pool over Christmas... However, as you can imagine, that would be quite costly.
The table below is an example of a typical seasonÍs running costs using different methods of heating an outdoor pool.

All these factors need to be taken into account when choosing the correct heating system for your swimming pool. The key thing to remember when selecting a heating system is the balance between your initial cost of buying the unit, versus your long term running costs.

Outdoor Heat Pumps - Free Heat from the Air!
For outdoor pools, significant savings can be made over traditional electric heating with a heat pump. A heat pump uses the same technology as a domestic freezer, but in reverse. It captures and enhances latent temperature in the air. You only use electricity to drive the fan and compressor, so in effect, for every eight units of heat energy captured, you only paying for two.
What could be better than using the earthÍs natural heat to warm your pool? With our range of Calorex outdoor heat pumps from Certikin, this is possible. Manufactured to suit a wide range of applications, these units transfer and upgrade heat from the outside air to the pool water. Heat pump technology offers an efficient and economical method of pool water heating, which does not rely on the sunshine, just air!
Our range of heat pumps includes models, which operate at ambient temperatures as low as -15 degrees centigrade, thus offering year-round heating.

Calorex heat pumps will transfer approximately four units of energy to the pool, for each unit of energy consumed. Amazingly, the sun does not have to be out for the heat pump to work. All Calorex standard units will happily operate with the outside air temperature as low as 0°C.
Calorex heat pumps are manufactured to suit a large variety of pools. The '20' range will successfully heat the pool water through a typical summer season, operating efficiently at an outside air temperature at or above 7°C. (Heating Season; May to September).

Frequently, the most economical option for in ground swimming pool heating, our heat exchangers link to the house boiler, supplying heat to the pool when not needed for the house. This ensures that you can maximise your heating resources to keep your pool at a comfortable temperature without the cost of a stand-alone heating system.
If your house boiler is within 20-30 ft of your pools plant room, then it is often possible to fit a heat exchanger onto your domestic boiler. This is dependant on the BTU output of your domestic boiler and, whether it has enough spare BTU's to heat the water capacity of your pool. If your domestic boiler is too small, then it may be more economical to upgrade it. A heat exchanger could then be fitted to the upgraded boiler, ruling out the need to buy a dedicated pool heater.
Your second option if you cannot upgrade, is to purchase a domestic combi-boiler, install it into your plant room and heat the pool through a heat exchanger this way.
As a general rule you should allow 10 BTU's per gallon of required heated pool water.

You will also require a 2 pole thermostat to control the flow of hot water to the Heat Exchanger, via the hot water system on the boiler. £155.00 Inc VAT.
Please contact us if you need more detailed information on your BTU requirements, as each domestic boiler / heat exchanger installation is specific to your pool and its equipment.

Thermalec pool heaters are unique, as they will operate with high velocity water coming from the filter, without it directly striking the heating elements. Instead, the water is deflected by baffles and is forced around the curved base of the heater.
The patented spiral flow around the elements removes all the generated heat, minimising the risk of scale or sediment collecting inside the heater. Any air pumped from the pool is allowed to pass harmlessly around the sides of the baffles and across the top of the heater. The control thermostat is positioned away from the elements, in order to sense the incoming water temperature and control the poolÍs temperature within 1°C.
Unlike conventional electric pool heaters, the Thermalec is guaranteed to hold its thermal efficiency for life, without regular cleaning or de-scaling. This means your running cost will not increase over time, and maintenance costs are drastically reduced.
