Water treatment - Introduction
At Oyster Pools & Leisure, we strive to make water treatment as simple as possible for our customers. Water treatment of swimming pools and hot tubs is very important as it keeps the water bacteria free and safe to use. Untreated pool or hot tub water could potentially be hazardous to your health.
Our shop at Raglan Garden Centre is stocked throughout the year with water treatment chemicals. We offer a wide selection of water treatments for your pool or hot tub, so were confident we can find the right system for you.
Water Testing
We offer a FREE water testing and troubleshooting service. If you are experiencing any problems, simply collect a water sample from your pool or hot tub and bring it to our office within the hour.
In addition to this service, we will provide you with a FREE chemical maintenance guide. It's written by us, so theres no jargon. Just simple, step by step instructions.

FI-CLOR® Pool Chemicals
At Oyster pools we believe that providing quality products is very important. This is why we only recommend Fi-Clor® swimming pool chemicals for your pool. Fi-Clor® chemicals are undoubtedly the best quality pool chemicals on the market. They dissolve easily and are not diluted with binding agents like most cheaper brands.
Pool Water Treatment
The most popular and cost effective way of sanitising your pool is with Fi-Clor® Stabilised Chlorine. It will keep your pool safe and hygienic by killing all waterborne bacteria. Example: 90g will raise 11,000 gallons (28 × 14 hopper pool) by 1 PPM. Stronger, so you use less, just like Fairy Liquid™.
Fi-Clor® pH adjusters and Alkalinity Increaser are used to maintain correct water balance. This is essential to ensure chlorine works properly and prolongs the life of your pool and its equipment.

Jacuzzi® Spa Chemicals
It is well known that Jacuzzi® produce very high quality products. This is why we only recommend Jacuzzi® spa chemicals for your hot tub. We stock a full range of Jacuzzi® chemicals. These include sanitisers, water balancers, anti-foam, anti-scale, shell cleaners, filter cleaners and much more.
Spa Water Treatment

AquaGarde®: A non Chlorine / Bromine solution for hot tubs
Aquagarde® is a revolutionary, patented, hot tub water care formula, using no chlorine or bromine. It is easy to use, worry free, and will keep your hot tub water pure and clean. AquaGarde® is a completely new method, which gives you wonderfully clean water, with no balancing, no testing, no smell and no worry.
How is AquaGarde® different? A question of "Prevention or Cure"
The first thing to understand is that Bacteria grow in a bio-film (slime) in the spas pipes and on surfaces, feeding and multiplying. They then detach, and float around in the spa water. Chlorine and Bromine are oxidising chemicals which kill bacteria by dissolving their cell membrane. They are not strong enough to break down the bio-film, but instead they are added frequently to keep on top of the amount of bacteria being produced.
This is known as the "cure" method
AquaGarde® works by the "Prevention" method. It is designed to break down this bio-film so that bacteria production ceases. It then contains powerful chemicals which remove the components of the bio-film from the water and captures them on the filters, which then need to be frequently cleaned.
As an extra back-up each 2¼ litre bottle of AquaGarde® contains £20.00 worth of a silver in solution. Silver is a naturally occurring antibacterial agent. The ancient Romans used to insert Silver ingots into their water channels to control bacteria. It is for this reason that AquaGarde® is different to other "Non-Chlorine" alternatives.
The other alternatives still use small amounts of chlorine to back-up their weaker systems, and means they are not true "Non-Chlorine" alternatives.
Common problems faced by hot tub owners using conventional chemical systems:
Problem: Difficulty in balancing the pH level of the water - testing water is time consuming and its easy too overdose or under dose , creating further balance problems. Improper water balance can seriously damage your hot tub's operating equipment over time (heaters, pumps etc)... and your health - irritation of eyes, airways and of skin is generally caused by bad water balance. Lime scale can build-up on the working parts to shorten the life of the equipment drastically.
AquaGarde® Solution: Contains inbuilt "buffer" solution to stabilise your pH on application. A once a week dose maintains this buffer, so there is no need to test or dose pH between water changes.
Problem: Chlorine or Bromine kill bacteria in the water, but in the process also kill the good bacteria on your skin, leaving your skin feeling dehydrated and fragile after using the hot tub.
AquaGarde® Solution: Only prevents the bad bacteria from forming in the spas water. Does NOT dry the skin, in-fact the opposite our customers report their skin feeling softer than before they used the hot tub.
Problem: Chlorine or Bromine smells are unpleasant - even after a shower most users can still smell the chlorine on their skin.
AquaGarde® Solution: The solution has no apparent smell.
